Divisionals Team Champions: Rope and Bouldering
With the pandemic out of mind and a full change in leadership, the team set out to grow in size and presence. The team kept an open door to anyone in the climbing community looking to try competition or simply have a group to regularly train with, resulting in team bonding from twice-weekly practices and monthly social events or trips. We also set out to build our brand online and on campus, from Instagram to merch, the goal was to get more people aware and interested in the Michigan Climbing Team. These efforts translated into competitive success, with 15 athletes participating in Divisionals in Lexington, KY, and four making podium finishes. We also solidified ourselves as the most dominant collegiate climbing team in the Midwest, taking home the team championship banners in both sport and bouldering for the first time. From there, seven climbers went on to represent the Maize and Blue in Colorado Springs, CO for nationals. This season was a learning experience for everyone involved, and we plan on coming back bigger and better next year!
