THIS SEASON
While we might say this every year, the 2023-24 season was by far the best one yet. With the most competitions, climbers, and podium finishes to date it’s safe to say that it’s only up from here. The year started out strong with dozens of newcomers finding the team in the fall and getting a taste for competitive climbing with competitions in Detroit, Cincinnati, Windsor, and Chicago. We managed to secure our first sponsorship from Rhino Skin Solutions and collaborated with Organic Climbing to get the team swagged out with custom maize and blue backpacks and chalk bags. We held our first annual climbing themed scavenger hunt across campus in January (shoutout to the pink team for winning) and the MCT community came together for our biggest Giving Blueday yet. Over the course of the year our instagram managed to reach over 1.5 million people, sharing collegiate climbing and the Michigan spirit across the country. Despite a change to the USAC competition structure that eliminated team awards at the divisional level, the team put on a strong performance and claimed the unofficial title of Midwest champions. The season culminated with seven climbers representing Michigan at the USAC Collegiate National Championships in Gilbert, Arizona where a third place finish for Elliot Vander Roest in Intermediate Men’s bouldering helped propel the team to a 5th place finish in the team bouldering championship!
